The United Nations urges the media to “differentiate between facts and fictions” when reporting coronaviruses

May 5, 2020

The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, asked the media on Monday to “differentiate between facts and fictions” when reporting on the coronavirus pandemic.

This happened during a virtual event convened by UNESCO on freedom of expression and disinformation during the Covid 19 pandemic on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, which also highlighted the relevance of the work of journalists.

“Journalists and media professionals of all kinds are critical to making informed decisions. In a pandemic, these decisions can save lives,” said Guterres.
