The United Nations denounced 42 massacres and the murder of 48 social leaders in Colombia this year

A United Nations report denounced 42 massacres and killings of 48 social leaders and human rights defenders, including nine from indigenous communities and five women, in Colombia in 2020 and warned of the risk of death that more than two-thirds of demobilized people face, according to the FARC .

The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has presented the report, which is based on the verification mission of the United Nations in Colombia and analyzes the period from June 27th to September 25th this year.

It notes that while the national homicide rate fell in the first half of 2020, “violence continues in the most conflict-affected regions” and that 13 alleged massacres are still under investigation, which would be compounded, the 42 confirmed .
