May 4, 2020

The United Nations warned this Sunday of the “catastrophic” consequences that the Covid 19 pandemic could have in Malawi, southeast Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world with a high index of vulnerable populations affected by other serious populations Diseases such as AIDS, malaria or hepatitis A.

“Even a relatively small number of cases could cause the health system to collapse and lead to food shortages, reversing the path taken in the country in recent years,” said Malawi-based UN coordinator María José Torres.

The United Nations chief development official in this small African country has warned that the consequences of an outbreak of the new corona virus could cause “catastrophically high costs” there.
