The UN Security Council will not respond to US demands for further sanctions against Iran

The United Nations Security Council announced on Tuesday that it would not take any action at the request of the United States to extend the arms embargo on Iran, as there is no consensus in the body.

“There is no consensus in the Council and therefore the Presidency is unable to take action,” said Dian Triansyah Djani, the Indonesian UN Ambassador, whose country currently chairs the Security Council.

A week ago, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo officially addressed a request to the Security Council to extend sanctions against Iran on the eve of the end of the embargo on the Persian nation on October 18. despite the fact that no member, including its allies, intended to support the extension.

The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Kelly Craft, issued a statement in which she criticized the position of the Security Council, which she has accused of “lacking courage and moral clarity”.
