The UN is “against” an “escalation” in Venezuela and demands that the negotiations “be resumed”

May 21, 2020

“We remain convinced that negotiations between key political actors in Venezuela are the only way out of the current crisis,” said United Nations Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacekeeping, Rosemary Dicarlo.

The UN Security Council held a meeting this Wednesday at Russia’s request to discuss Operation Gideon, the failed raid by a group of mercenaries who would seek to overthrow the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

Dicarlo, who insisted that United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres speak against the escalation in Venezuela on May 4, has asked all Member States to support any resumption of negotiations, and this emphasizes that “political dialogue and respect of human rights “is the United Nations position.
