The UN condemns the “terrible” and “deplorable” attack on a hotel in Mogadishu

The United Nations condemned the “terrible” and “deplorable” attack by the terrorist group Al Shabaab on the elite hotel in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Sunday, in which 16 people died and dozen were injured.

In a statement, the UN Special Envoy for Somalia, James Swan, stated that “the attack was aimed at civilians, including government employees, all of whom were enjoying Sunday afternoons.”

“This savagery has no place in this Somali country,” he said before declaring the attack deserves the “strongest condemnation”.
