Experts from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that at least 20 million people in the country may be infected with the corona virus because they only test patients with symptoms and not those who do not present them and they have the ability to infect other people, according to CNN.
The CDC estimates that the actual number of coronavirus cases is ten times higher than the officially recognized number, which is currently 2.4 million infected and more than 120,000 deaths.
The estimate from CDC professionals was released at a time when the state of Texas decided to stop the process of lifting restrictions due to the increasing number of infections and hospitalizations. In the past few days, several states in the south and west of the United States have recorded a record number of coronavirus cases, and the country marked its new daily credit maximum with 40,000 positive results on Thursday.
“Our best estimate at the moment is that there would actually be ten more infections for each case identified,” CDC director Robert Redfield said in press releases on Thursday. The health manager said that this estimate is based on only testing people with symptoms of coronavirus and infecting others who are asymptomatic.
