The U.S. could register nearly 320,000 coronavirus deaths in total by December

The United States Institute of Health Metrics and Assessment (IHME) estimates that 317,000 people could have died from the coronavirus in the country by next December, a number higher than the Institute’s estimate from last week it was up to the end of this year 310,000 dead.

So, according to the Johns Hopkins University, there would be 140,000 more deaths than the current 180,000 who have currently died in the country due to the pandemic.

In this new model, researchers expect a slight decrease in daily deaths in September, which will gradually increase in October and November, reaching nearly 2,000 daily deaths in early December.

However, IHME researchers said on their website this Thursday, when their model was updated, that “if the use of masks in public rises to 95 percent, more than 67,000 lives could be saved”.
