The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) received more than 98 percent of the vote in regional parliamentary elections held on Wednesday, which was rejected by the central government amid tensions between the formation and the Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed.

The Tigray Electoral Commission stated in its report on the Facebook social network that the TPLF won about 2.6 million votes, while the second most elected party, Baitona, collected fewer than 21,000 ballots.

The other three parties that took part in the election – the Tigray Independence Party, Salsay Weyane Tigray and the Asimba Democratic Party – received 18,479, 7,136 and 774 votes, respectively, according to the official results released the day after they were released Preparations will already give the TPLF an overwhelming majority.
