The authorities in the Ethiopian region of Tigray called this Wednesday an “historic victory”. The vote took place during the day to elect their parliament. These elections took place despite warnings from Abiy Ahmed’s executive branch.
The communications office of the regional government issued a statement underlining that “the mission has been accomplished” and that “the Tigray people have achieved another historic victory”.
“The people of Tigray and their regional nation-state have kept their word and promises and voted to live up to reality,” he said, before stressing that this is “a great event and a great achievement.”
It influenced the elections to “guarantee and reaffirm the right of the Tigray people to self-determination” before emphasizing that “today’s victory is a heavy blow to the unified dictatorial regime of Abiy,” according to Tigray TV chain.
