The Supreme Court advocates the legality of the Bolsonarista group’s investigation into the spread of false news

June 18, 2020

The Supreme Court of Brazil (STF) unanimously approved Wednesday the legality of the case, which investigates the spread of false news and crimes to the country’s institutions, and whose main objectives are groups related to President Jair Bolsonaro.

Pending coordination with three other judges, the rest of the Supreme Court has continued to support an investigation launched in March 2019 in response to attacks and threats against some of them and other Brazilian institutions and agencies.

The investigation has gone through this electoral process due to the controversy caused by the fact that it was launched by the Supreme Court President, Dias Toffoli, without prior request from the Attorney General.
