The Special Court for Lebanon (TEL) is due to deliver an awaited verdict on the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri 15 years after the crime amid a crisis at every level in the country and for the United States, next Tuesday, August 18 Members of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah are on trial, all abroad.

This is the first time since the Nuremberg Trials after the Second World War that an international court has held a trial “in absentia” in which the responsibilities of leaders, officials and employees of National Socialist Germany were established and condemned.

The case reopened earlier this year when the President of the Tribunal, David Re, announced the inclusion of a fifth suspect, Hasan Merhi, in the case of the extermination of the former Lebanese Prime Minister.
