The Salvadoran subsidiary of the airline Volaris will accept Bitcoin payments

As a result of the widespread adoption of Bitcoin (BTC) in El Salvador, Volaris El Salvador, a local subsidiary of the Mexican airline, accepts Bitcoin as a means of payment.

The Bitcoin move comes a month after the Salvadoran aviation authorities have given the local Volaris subsidiary permission to operate in the country.

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele went to Twitter to announceThat the airline would accept Bitcoin.

In a recent Volaris event organized on Twitter, President Bukele stressed that the ability to pay with Bitcoin and the state wallet Chivo allows us to increase the number of flights available to Salvadorans.

Bukele’s government continues to encourage citizens to use Bitcoin for payments and has even offered fuel subsidies. Previously, the country had invested $ 4 million in unrealized bitcoin profits to fund infrastructure development projects like a veterinary clinic.

The authorities at Venezuela’s main airport in Caracas are following in the footsteps of El Salvador to accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as payment for tickets and other services.

As Cointelegraph reported, Simón Bolívar International Airport, in collaboration with the National Superintendency of Crypto Assets and Related Activities, wants to enable payments with cryptocurrencies in order to meet local industry standards.

According to the airport’s director, Freddy Borges, the airport will accept payments in Bitcoin, Dash and Petro, a government-issued oil-backed token. Noting that he is committed to driving the adoption of cryptocurrencies, Borges said: “We need to advance these new economic and technological systems in order to be accessible.”
