A work created by artist Banksy was sold at Sotheby’s house this Tuesday for around £ 2.4m (an amount used for the work of a hospital by the West Bank city of Bethlehem).
Sotheby’s has detailed on its website that the sale of ‘Mediterranean Sea View 2017’, consisting of three paintings, has brought £ 2,235,000 (about € 2,467,000) above the US government’s original estimates.
Until recently, the three works hung in the Walled Off Hotel, which was designed by the artist in Bethlehem and is very close to the security barrier that the Israeli authorities have set up in the West Bank.
The triptych shows a coast in the Mediterranean with several life jackets pulled by the waves. According to Sotheby’s, the funds will be handed over to the Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation (BASR).
