The Paul Rusesabagina Foundation, which saved hundreds of people during the Rwanda genocide, has denounced that the former manager of the Mille Collines Hotel was kidnapped by the authorities and left without contact with the outside world without access to relatives or the lawyer he chose.
Rusesabagina’s 66-year-old Belgian family has assured him that he lost track of them after landing in Dubai in late August. Last week, the Rwandan authorities showed him handcuffs without clarifying how they had arrested him.
His foundation has claimed he was kidnapped and “illegally brought to Rwanda” on August 28 in Dubai. “The process that is currently being developed is a farce that neither the US nor Belgium can ignore,” he urged, recalling that Rusesabagina also has a residence permit in the North American country, according to the Bloomberg agency.
Investigators claim the businessman is “the founder, leader, sponsor and member of violent, armed and extremist terrorist organizations,” but those around him claim that the arrest was based on his criticism of President Paul Kagame and his integration into the movement for Democratic Change.
