The National Executive of the Workers’ Party (PT) has announced it will file a motion to open a political trial against President Jair Bolsonaro, which is also supported by social movements, civil society organizations, and other political formations.
“This government doesn’t stop,” said PT President Gleisi Hoffmann. “Bolsonaro is unable to respond to the crisis we are experiencing and does not have the conditions or the administrative and human resources to run the country,” added Hoffmann, the left-wing formation said.
The leadership of the historical PT is therefore working with the “democratic and popular forces” so that the Bolsonaro impeachment application can be prepared and presented next week and there is a possibility that other forces and organizations will join. The PT will participate in the “Fuera Bolsonaro” campaign, which “will continue the struggle for the end of the Bolsonaro government”.
The PT is the party of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who led strong economic growth and the decline in inequality during his tenure between 2003 and 2011. His social policy earned him high popularity ratings, even if he was concerned about corruption in your government.
Lula was succeeded by his Vice President Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016), who was expelled after an impeachment proceeding by Michel Temer. In the 2018 elections, the far-right Jair Bolsonaro was the winner after the courts disqualified Lula, a favorite in the polls.
