SYDNEY, Sep. 20 (DPA / EP) –
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has promised a second century of friendship with the United States on Friday before a one-week state visit that includes a formal dinner with US President Donald Trump.
“Australia is a responsible partner. We strive and get things done,” Morrison said before he arrived in the United States.
“The Americans know that they don't have a better ally, nor a better friend than Australia. At the heart of our deep and permanent friendship are the values and beliefs that unite our countries,” he said.
Trump will have dinner at the White House with Morrison on Friday, being the second formal occasion since Trump became president.
Morrison hopes to further strengthen the strong alliance between the United States and Australia and ensure that Trump maintains the US military commitment to the Asian region as its relationship with China worsens.
“We share the goal of a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific where the rights of all sovereign and independent states are respected and where trade, capital and ideas flow freely,” he stressed.
