The President of the Bank of Brazil resigns because he believes the body needs “renovation”.

The President of the Bank of Brazil, Rubem Novais, resigned on Friday from Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Economics Minister Paulo Guedes, assuring that the facility needs to be “renovated”.

The institute said in a statement that Novais resigned, “with effect from August (…) understanding that the company needs renewal to address future moments of many innovations in the banking system.”

He also reported that the election of a new president, if the authorities accept his resignation, will follow the statutes that require the Brazilian president to elect him, according to the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper.

Novais had previously worked at the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and has been head of the Bank of Brazil since 2018 on the proposal of Guedes.
