The Philippine government will approve the opening of more companies and businesses from August, although the increase in the number of coronaviruses has almost brought the healthcare system to collapse due to the high number of COVID-19 patients.

The intergovernmental group responsible for fighting the coronavirus pandemic has approved the reopening of companies at 30 percent of their capacity since August 1 in areas subject to the general community’s relaxed quarantine protocol, according to a statement by the spokesman for the Philippine Presidency, Harry Roque.

“This includes learning and testing centers, verification centers, sports centers, cafeterias, facilities that offer personal aesthetic services, as well as animal care and drive-in cinemas,” said the President’s spokesman.

The decision to allow more business was made during a meeting on Tuesday after the Ministry of Health reported that last Sunday 52.3 percent of hospital beds were occupied by coronavirus patients in what is known as the “alarm zone”.
