The interior minister of Paraguay, Euclides Acevedo, was hospitalized this Tuesday after testing positive for coronavirus, according to the newspaper “Ultima Hora”.
The positive was confirmed by Paraguayan Health Minister Julio Mazzoleni, who made it clear that despite his advanced age (70 years), he is stable. Acevedo is the first member of the cabinet to become infected with the disease caused by the virus.
The Latin American country with around 7 million inhabitants has found a relatively low infection rate. However, this month COVID-19 cases have increased and 13,602 infections were recorded on Monday. A total of 219 people died.
President Mario Abdo Benítez has imposed measures such as traffic restrictions and bans on the sale of alcohol in areas with the highest infection rate.
