Hailing from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the coronavirus pandemic has registered more than 239,000 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to more than 33.97 million infected and more than a million deaths, the balance sheet was released this Thursday by the Johns Hopkins University published.
A total of 33,978,492 people have contracted the virus, more than half of whom are in the three hardest hit countries – the US, India and Brazil – while the death toll is already 1,014,291.
In terms of recovery, more than 23.64 million people have already managed to overcome COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus. India tops the list with more than 5.27 million patients cured.
The United States remains the most pandemic-hit country in the world, with 7.23 million infected and 206,959 deaths, after adding 42,812 new cases from the previous balance.
