The Chinese Ministry of Health has reported that 101 new cases of coronavirus were registered on Tuesday, a notable increase from the 68 it confirmed the previous day.
According to the Chinese health authorities, 98 of the new cases are transmitted locally and three are imported. Of the local transmission cases, 89 were discovered in the Xinjiang region, where the Uyghur Muslim minority lives. Local authorities have already ordered the capital Urumqi to be closed to respond to an increase in infections. Since then, however, the cases have increased steadily.
Eight of the remaining local transmission cases were diagnosed in Liaoning, where local transmission infections have also been reported for a few days. The last one was confirmed in Beijing. Regarding imported cases, two were registered in Guangdong and one in Shanghai.
With these new numbers, China has increased its balance to 84,060 infected people, while it has already registered a total of 2,056 cases from abroad. On the other hand, there were no records of deaths from COVID-19 that Tuesday, so the number remains stable at 4,634.
