The outgoing director of the Israeli secret services, Mossad, Yossi Cohen, called on Sunday to “fight” Iran until it is eliminated.
“We have to step up operations against the Iranian regime and fight it and its activities until it is eliminated,” he said, according to The Times of Israel.
As of June 1, the country’s foreign intelligence services will be headed by number two, David Barnea, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced last week after Cohen had been in office for five years.
The decision to put Barnea at the head of the agency was made in December 2020, although it had not yet been made public. The new director has been with Mossad for 30 years and spends most of his time in the department responsible for agent recruitment.
According to the Israeli media “Haaretz” Barnea is described by high-ranking officials of the agency as a reforming person who is open to structural, organizational and professional changes.
