The opposing parties in Libya reach an agreement on the distribution of positions during their contacts in Morocco

September 10, 2020

The rival governments in Libya announced this Thursday that they had reached an agreement on the distribution of positions in the country’s institutions in a statement released following their meetings in recent days in the Moroccan city of Buznika.

In this document the Tripoli-based and internationally recognized delegations of the unity government and the Tobruk-based parliament spoke of a pact on the criteria and mechanisms for the distribution of positions.

They also agreed to continue the dialogue and resumption of contacts in the last week of September in order to put the finishing touches on the mechanisms to ensure the application of the agreement, as gathered by the Moroccan state news agency MAP.

On the other hand, they stressed that the meetings “took place in a friendly and fraternal atmosphere, characterized by understanding and consensus” and they stressed that they were in line with the political agreement signed in Skhirat in 2015, from which the executive branch emerged from unity.
