A base salary is not enough. Companies have to give an emotional salary that includes recognition of achievements, cordial relationships and a pleasant workplace. All this allows employees to be much more productive.

The emotional salary is a trend in which millennials and centennials do not want to be locked in an office with four walls without comfort, lighting, rest areas and ergonomic furniture. This is explained by Fernando Núñez, deputy director of Human Resources of, a Mexican company that designs, manufactures and markets office furniture and storage systems since 1950.

“What millennials and centennials are looking for are collaborative areas. New generations like to be surrounded by more people and have better communication. Not having to write an email or make a call to get in touch with someone. But having the partner by the side and sharing experiences, ”says Fernando Núñez in an interview with .

Currently, Mexicans spend 50 hours or more in their offices a week, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). “Due to the long hours of work and the stress generated by living in a city, fatigue increases. That is why it is necessary for companies to take care of the health of their employees through comfortable furniture, ”says the manager.

According to the OECD, the commitment of workers can increase up to four times when they are in an adequate environment to carry out their daily activities. Not only for the office furniture that integrate technology, but for the good design of the spaces and their correct distribution. In this way, there is an emotional salary that translates into loyalty and performance.

But it doesn't matter that you don't have the investment right away to have the office that the new generations want. From now on you can approach a furniture consultant to make a remodeling plan for your company in one or two years.

“The results are usually much better when working with time and given the importance of choosing from an ergonomic chair, storage furniture or a good desk,” explains Donovan Servín, Industrial designer of PM Steele.

When a chair is not truly ergonomic, the person rises again and again from his place and that decreases productivity , as well as health because the seat hurts the spine, neck and back. “What we recommend today is that the backs are in mesh. That helps us improve perspiration, ”says Donovan Servín, industrial designer of PM Steele.

The office furniture industry has innovated with the height-adjustable table that you can adjust to your height to work standing or sitting. Other creations are cabin type armchairs that allow you to completely isolate yourself and have privacy; In addition, the lockers also function as a decoration wall. On the other hand, the rack drive is ideal for companies that need to improve the order and control of their products, taking full advantage of the height and space of their warehouse.

There are young clients who approach PM Steele saying: 'My grandfather told me that his desk was from PM Steele and he was 40 years old.' “That's why we continue to keep the classic lines because customers request them. What we are doing over time is adapting technology, ”says Donovan.

The ideal office is one that suits the real needs of your business and your employees. It will be much better if you have these four elements:

  • Lighting: natural light is the best option because in addition to reducing visual fatigue, exhaustion and migraine, it promotes concentration and productivity.
  • Rest areas: a free space can become a great ally because it favors relaxation, coexistence and communication.
  • Furniture materials: wood is one of the most noble materials and gives a touch of elegance. Make sure the processes to obtain it are sustainable.
  • Ergonomic furniture: especially the chairs, if they are suitable for the physiognomy of the collaborators, you will avoid muscle aches and bad postures that make you feel worn and lacking in energy.
