The Nicaraguan opposition signs the statutes of the National Coalition to confront Ortega

June 26, 2020

The Nicaraguan opposition signed the statute of the so-called National Coalition to face the government of Daniel Ortega this Thursday after the Citizens Alliance decided to participate after requesting an extension that shook the party’s plans.

This has been confirmed by the executive director of training, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, as reported by the local newspaper ‘La Prensa’.

The Civic Alliance’s petition, sparked by concerns about internal litigation within the Liberal Constitutionalist Party (PLC), was interpreted as an attempt to pull out of the project under pressure from the corporate sector, which its leaders deny.

The requested extension caused the first cracks in the election amalgam, and the other parties that made up the collaboration feared that the Civic Alliance would turn to Citizens for Freedom (CxL), which precluded joining the general bloc.
