The New York governor calls for “extreme caution” despite the downward trend in the COVID-19 case number

June 11, 2020

New York state governor Andrew Cuomo called for “major concern” on Thursday despite the downward trend in the number of coronavirus cases.

“The corona virus has not disappeared,” he warned, before stressing that about twenty states across the country are experiencing an increase in infections. “The virus is out there. It is increasing in 21 states and fourteen of them have the highest number of infections that have ever been registered,” he said.

As Cuomo indicated at a press conference, this would be due to the reopening measures. However, the state of New York itself has not seen an increase in infections, despite the partial withdrawal of restrictive measures. “New York is an exception,” he said.

“The numbers are good. Everything we’ve done has been good so far, but it’s not enough. We could make a mistake that destroys everything we’ve made. So let’s be smart,” he insisted.
