At least 3,148 people were killed by Brazilian police in the first six months of the year. That’s 7 percent more than the previous year when 2,934 deaths were confirmed.
Likewise, the number of Brazilian police officers who have died both on and off duty has increased by 24 percent from 83 in the first half of 2019 to 103 these days.
The data was published by the Globo network’s G1 news portal based on official figures administered by the security departments of the various states and the federal district, although Goiás did not provide their numbers.
The study includes deaths from homicides, robberies and injuries resulting from clashes between civilians and law enforcement officers.
