In a statement issued after a monthly meeting to investigate national and international political events, reported by the MAP news agency, the party said it was an action “contrary to sound bilateral relations”.

In the letter, the General Secretariat for Civic Education recalled that Ghali “is the subject of serious allegations relating to human rights abuses, crimes against humanity and apparent violations of the rights of those abducted in Tindouf camps”.

This condemnation contributes to the general opposition that the presence of Ghali in Spain generated in Morocco, precisely this Sunday the Istiqlal party wrote in a letter to the General Secretary of the Spanish People’s Party, Pablo Casado, to protest against this action.

In addition, in its statement, the PJD “strongly condemned the violations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the insistence on entering its esplanades and violating its holiness” in Jerusalem, as well as “the violations in all other areas of the holy city.” , while renewing its support “for the Palestinian people in their constant struggle for their independence and for the liberation of their country.”

Ghali, also president of the self-proclaimed Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), was hospitalized for two weeks at a hospital in Logroño to receive treatment for COVID-19. The Spanish government has justified the decision to accept them for purely humanitarian reasons.

The arrival of the Polisario leader in Spain caused unrest in Rabat from the first moment. From Morocco, they have accused Spain of deliberately omitting the inclusion of Ghali in what they described as a decision against the “good neighbors” relationship between the two countries, from which the Alawite kingdom “will draw its conclusions”.

However, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, Arancha González Laya, has given assurances that “adequate explanations have been given regarding the circumstances that led to our taking in Ghali on strictly humanitarian grounds” and has insisted on the good existing Relations between the two countries existed.

One of the aspects that seems to have bothered Morocco the most is the fact that Ghali has cases pending before the Spanish judicial system and has not been arrested. This has also been requested by the Sahrawi Association for the Defense of Human Rights (ASADEDH) on the basis of pending proceedings for crimes allegedly committed against the Sahrawi people who are fleeing in the Sahrawi camps of Tindouf (Algeria).
