Melvin Theuma, a mediator in the conspiracy to assassinate investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, is in critical condition after being stabbed at his home hours before a new court case to investigate the murder of the police journalist Year 2017.
According to the Times of Malta newspaper, Theuma was found with a neck cut in the bathroom of his home and also suffered a large abdominal wound. He was taken to the Mater Dei Hospital and entered the operating room when he arrived.
The police have detailed that the “first signs” indicate that he injured himself. It was Theuma’s lawyer who raised the alarm by not contacting him. The police stationed in his house to protect him entered his apartment with his wife and found him surrounded by a large amount of blood.
Theuma’s presidential pardon is expected to monopolize the new session of the trial scheduled for Wednesday, framed by Yorgen Fenech, the suspect of the murder. The process resumed in June after being suspended for several months due to the crisis triggered by the COVID 19 pandemic. According to sources from the study cited by the Times of Malta, the case has already reached a potentially critical point.
