The JNE appoints Pedro Castillo as President-elect of Peru

The National Election Jury of Peru (JNE) has named Pedro Castillo as elected President of the South American country for the period 2021-2026.

In a ceremony that began at 7:00 p.m. local time, the JNE presented the General Proclamation, a document attesting the result that the leader of Peru Libre received 50.12 percent of the support against the Popular Force candidate. Keiko Fujimori, who received 49.87 percent of the support.

Hours before the proclamation, the JNE announced that it would unanimously reject the last five appeals by Fuerza Popular against the presidential election process.
