The Japanese government is considering lifting the state of emergency in Tokyo next Monday

The Japanese government could lift the state of emergency in Tokyo and four other prefectures next Monday after making further progress in its efforts to curb the corona virus.

The authorities already agreed on Thursday to lift the state of emergency in Osaka, Hyogo and Kyoto Prefectures due to the reduction in the number of cases.

The government will make the final decision on the same Monday, May 25, after receiving the expert opinions. In addition to Tokyo, the prefectures Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama, which border the capital, and Hokkaido, the northernmost, are according to the official NHK news network.

There were three new cases of infection in Tokyo on Friday 22nd, and the figure for the past seven days was below 0.5 per 100,000 population, which was one of the criteria for lifting the state of emergency. The relationship in Kanagawa and Hokkaido has remained above this threshold.
