ROME, Feb. 12 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Italian Senate has given the green light this Wednesday that the former Interior Minister and leader of the ultra-right-wing League, Matteo Salvini, is judged for preventing the landing of migrants rescued by an Italian coastguard ship.
Salvini is accused of kidnapping for preventing during days last summer, when he was still head of the Interior, the landing of the 131 migrants rescued by the patrol boat 'Gregoretti'. In order to be brought to trial for these facts, it was necessary that his parliamentary immunity be withdrawn.
“I knew it. I am totally calm and proud of what I did and will do it again as soon as I return to the Government,” said Salvini after hearing the decision, according to Sky.
