The Italian public prosecutor’s office is calling for a lawsuit against Conte and his executive branch for combating the COVID-19 pandemic

August 13, 2020

Italian prosecutors this Thursday asked to open an open case against Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and part of his cabinet over combating the coronavirus pandemic.

The prosecutors who informed Conte and five other ministers of the lawsuit filed against him have nonetheless stated that they consider the allegations “unfounded”.

The allegations include crimes against public health such as causing an epidemic, ill-treatment, abuse of power and violating the Constitution, and the rights and freedoms of Italians, the Conte office said in a statement.

However, the prosecutor’s application is now being examined by a judge who, according to the newspaper “Corriere della Sera”, will decide whether to archive the case or to initiate an investigation into it.
