Israeli Tourism Minister Asaf Amir resigned on Friday because he did not trust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This made him the first member of the blue and white party, led by Benny Gantz. the current coalition.
Netanyahu and Gantz agreed on an unprecedented alliance to avoid calling the third election in a year. However, the discrepancies between the two blocks were already evident in the first few weeks and worsened at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
Zamir voted against the two regulatory packages to combat the pandemic – within which there are demonstration restrictions – and their continuity was already in the air. Finally, Zamir met with Gantz this Friday and confirmed he will not stay in the executive branch, according to The Jerusalem Post.
“The coronavirus crisis has at best a subordinate priority for the prime minister,” criticized Zamir, who deals with Netanyahu more with “personal and legal considerations” than with the wellbeing of the population. “It has become clear what steps have been taken,” he added.
