Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an extraordinary aid package on Sunday to relieve the economic pressure on the Israelis if the country exceeds 62,000 cases.
This is a one-time package worth $ 1.9 billion, for which almost all Israelis receive $ 220, with additional help for families, the elderly, and Holocaust survivors.
The package was not without controversy because its critics described it as “indiscriminate” and “economic waste”. However, the government has defended that this economic injection will serve to promote consumption.
When the Prime Minister warned this Sunday that “there are no miracle cures” to fight the coronavirus, hundreds of people have gathered in cities like Jerusalem to protest his response to the crisis at a time when he was is also charged with corruption.
