The Iraqi security forces search Baghdad for German citizens who have been kidnapped by armed men

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has confirmed the kidnapping of a German citizen in Baghdad and reports that security forces have been launched to try to locate and rescue her.

Iraqi Interior Minister Othman Al Ghanmi has informed the data protection agency that he has instructed the security forces to step up the search for the woman identified as Hella Mewis who works as an art curator.

Mewis was kidnapped at around 8:00 p.m. on Monday by armed militiamen on Abú Nawas Street near the Bait Tarkib Art Cooperative, a person responsible for the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq on Twitter.

Another activist who asked that his identity remain anonymous has informed the DPA that Mewis has disappeared after leaving home in the Iraqi capital and that his cell phone is unavailable. The Federal Foreign Ministry has not yet confirmed the kidnapping.
