HONG KONG, Sep 3 (Reuters / EP) –
The leader of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, said on Tuesday that she has never submitted her resignation to Beijing nor has she asked to be renounced to end the political crisis in the special Chinese administrative region.
“I have never submitted any resignation,” Lam said in relation to the information published by the Reuters news agency from a voice recording in which the leader was heard saying that he would resign if he had the chance.
In this regard, Lam has expressed that she is disappointed that the details of a private conversation were leaked to the press.
Thus, he insisted that it is his decision to stay and stressed that his Government could resolve the crisis after months of protests that began last June in relation to the draft law on extradition to mainland China.
Protesters have demanded greater democracy and have directly challenged the Chinese government, which has accused foreign governments, especially the United States and the United Kingdom, of driving the riots and protests.
