The Hong Kong government is considering the candidacy of Joshua Wong and 11 other opponents of the general election

July 30, 2020

Joshua Wong and eleven other prominent Hong Kong opponents have voided their candidacies for the regional elections next September in the former British colony.

“I was just banned from participating in the Legislative Council elections even though I was the main winner of the Hong Kong primary,” Wong announced on Twitter.

The Hong Kong activist said that “the excuse they put forward” is that he called the Beijing-based national security law “dacron law” that has been ratified.

The Hong Kong government announced the disqualification of Wong and the other eleven opponents, including four MPs, this Thursday in a statement warning that it was also reviewing “the validity of other candidacies.” “We do not rule out further nominations becoming invalid,” he warned.
