The Honduran police defend “abuse” and “violence” to stop the corona virus

April 24, 2020

Honduran National Police spokesman Jair Meza has defended “abuse” and “use of force” by agents against citizens in a sanitary emergency to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the Central American nation this Thursday.

“If violence is not used in some cases, this (the corona virus) will continue to advance and there will be more infections,” said Meza, noting that the “abuse” the agents are dealing with has saved lives.

Although he has stated that this does not justify the abuse of violence, he has admitted that sometimes this is “necessary” because the Hondurans do not comply with the country’s restrictive measures, such as the curfew.
