The Hague-based prosecutor of the Special Court for Kosovo has accused Kosovar President Hashim Thaci of ten charges of war crimes and humanity for allegedly responsible for nearly a hundred murders during the last war (1998-1999).
“The indictment alleges that Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli (a Kosovar political leader) and other accused suspects are criminally responsible for nearly 100 murders. The alleged crimes identified in the indictment concern hundreds of well-known ethnic Albanians, Serbs, Gypsies, and other victims Groups and include political rivals, “the special prosecutor said in a statement released this Wednesday.
The prosecutor said the charges include murder, disappearances, persecution, and torture, and claims that they have been forced to publicize the charges because of the “repeated efforts” by the President of Kosovo and Kadri Veseli to do the work of the Special Court for “hindering and undermining” Kosovo, the war crime in the former Serbian province of The Hague, assessed and created at the request of the Kosovar Parliament.
“This indictment is only an indictment. It is the result of a lengthy investigation and reflects the special prosecutor’s determination to prove all the allegations beyond doubt. An investigative judge from the Kosovo Special Court must decide whether to confirm this.” the charge, “he said.
