The great imam of the Burkinabe city of Djibo, Souaibou Cissé, was murdered that Saturday after being kidnapped by unidentified armed men on Tuesday. His family confirmed this to Radio France International.
73-year-old Cissé was returning from a trip to the country’s capital, Ouagadougou, on August 11 when he was attacked on the Namsiguia-Djibo route in northern Burkina near the border with Mali.
According to several witnesses, unidentified armed persons stopped public transport on which the Imam was traveling, the only passenger taken after an identity check.
The lifeless body of the religious was found in Tiléré, a town 4 kilometers from Djibo.
