The first official results in Peru put Fujimori in the lead, but with a very close result

With 55.6 percent of the votes counted in Peru, the preliminary results of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) of Peru give the candidate Keiko Fujimori from Fuerza Popular the lead with a very narrow result.

Pedro Castillo, the candidate for Peru Libre, would get 47.534 percent of the vote in this second round of voting according to the figures available so far, compared to 52.466 percent for the leader of Fuerza Popular.

The head of the ONPE, Piero Corvetto, said these first preliminary results come from the urban records and would be missing in rural areas and abroad.

The baseline polls and quick count indicated a technical tie, led first by Fujimori and then Castillo with very tight results.
