The European Parliament honors the Russian opponent Navalni with the Sakharov Prize 2021

This Wednesday, the European Parliament awarded the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalni the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Conscience, which the institution awards every year in recognition of the fight for human rights.

As confirmed in a communication by the European People’s Party, its candidate has received the award that honors his struggle for freedom in Russia. Poisoned in the summer of 2020, treated for months in a German hospital and imprisoned on his return to Russia, Nawalni is the main opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has persecuted his collaborator and ostracized his foundations.

Navalni received the support of the European People’s Party and the Liberals from Renew and has finally beaten a group of Afghan women and former Bolivian President Jeanine ñez in the race for the Sakharov Prize.
