The President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, German David McAllister, congratulated the self-proclaimed “responsible President” of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, on the anniversary of the country’s independence this Sunday.
“On the 209th anniversary of Venezuela’s independence, I congratulate the legitimate interim president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Juan Guaidó, the National Assembly and the people of Venezuela. Time to restore democracy in Venezuela! “McAllister posted on Twitter.
This statement reaffirmed the position of Brussels, Juan Guaidó, opposition leader and president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, as the country’s legitimate president for the review of the 2018 elections, which gave Nicolás Maduro a new presidential mandate as fraudulent.
Support for Guaidó at the international level remains central in the light of the December 6 elections, in which the National Assembly, a source of legitimacy as the “responsible president”, needs to be renewed.
