The EU reiterates its solidarity with Greece and Cyprus and threatens to take action against Turkey

The European Union this Wednesday reaffirmed its solidarity with Greece and Cyprus for Turkey’s continued activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, where it is continuing its exploration campaign in waters of which Athens claims jurisdiction, noting that the situation will be at a summit with Ankara in September is rated “with all options on the table”.

“The growing tensions are more worrying and we underline the urgent need to ease the tension,” concluded the extraordinary summit of EU leaders, who raised the issue at the request of several European partners.

The Council decided that the crisis would be tackled in September and then “all options will be on the table”, clearly referring to measures against Ankara.

At a press conference, the President of the Council, Charles Michel, stated that it would be a physical summit where “all the details” could be seen and a “clear and unified” position between the EU and Turkey could be defined.
