As a prelude to initiating the intra-Afghan dialogue, Kabul has announced the release of 2,000 Taliban prisoners in order to revive the abused process. With the approval of the US government and the Taliban, the release of 5,000 imprisoned insurgents and 1,000 prisoners is planned as the first step in initiating the peace process. It also provides for the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country and the Taliban’s commitment to persecuting terrorist groups.
