The EU calls on Minsk to end the criminal case against the post created by the opposition

August 21, 2020

The European Union this Friday demanded that the Belarusian authorities suspend the criminal case against the Coordination Council created by the opposition in order to promote dialogue to resolve the open crisis in the country.

A spokeswoman for the EU’s External Action Service has defended that civil society and those involved in the discussion about the country’s future “must be protected from violence and arbitrary arrests”.

“We hope that the authorities will close the criminal case and instead engage in a dialogue to find a peaceful solution that respects the fundamental rights of the Belarusian people,” he said.
