The House of Representatives, the Tobruk-based parliament that General Jalifa Haftar supports, has called for direct intervention by the Egyptian army to counter the support Turkey offers to the unity government recognized by the international community in Libya.
In a statement approved by the Libyan media “Al Wasat” late Monday, the Tobruk parliament “urges the Egyptian armed forces to intervene to protect Libya and Egypt’s national security if they see an immediate threat to the United States security our two countries “, denounces the Turkish” occupation “.
Haftar, supported by Egypt, Russia and the United Arab Emirates, launched an operation in April 2019 to take control of Tripoli, the capital and seat of the united government led by Fayez Serraj.
After the first advance, the conflict stalled until Turkey decided to intervene on the Libyan government’s side, reverse the situation and expel Haftar’s forces. The battle is now for the city of Sirte, the hometown of the late Muammar Gaddafi.
