The deputy chief of police in the Afghan province of Kapisa was killed in a Taliban ambush outside Kabul on Saturday, police sources told Afghan broadcaster 1TV.
The officer died around 7:20 am this morning as he drove through the Kalakan district on the outskirts of the city. The ambush left his vehicle on fire and he died in the fire.
Other Kapisa police officers were killed in the attack. According to these sources, a civilian chief of the provincial police, Mustafa Kohistani, was wounded.
The Taliban have not spoken about this attack, which is part of the spiral of violence that the country plunged into as it attempted to advance the peace talks.
